Biophysics of Behavior
The dynamics of information transfer and transformation within and between neurons are determined by their response properties. Thus, we seek to gain specific knowledge of the active membrane properties and synaptic processes of cerebellar neurons to assemble a detailed understanding of the mechanistic underpinnings of motor learning. However, the cerebellum also influences other domains of brain function due to its remote access to other regions. For this reason, we are also studying how learning-dependent operations performed in the cerebellum participate and organize activity across the brain to optimize performance, including cognition and executive functioning.
